‘Lialka-motanka’ is a Ukrainian people’s doll, symbol of women’s wisdom and family bounds.  Pysanka as an ancient symbol of life, family bonds and prosperity was venerated by many of those, who believed that the world originated from an egg.

 

 

 



Folk crafts

Unique folk art, traditions, legends, crafts have preserved their authenticity and developed in Ivano-Frankivsk region.  Colorful Yavoriv "lizhnyk" (wool cover),  Kosmach "pysankas" (Easter painted eggs), toys made of cheese from Brusturiv village, Kosiv ceramics, works of famous Hutsul wood-carvers are well-known nowadays in the world.

The ethnic variety of Hutsulland, Boyki-land, Opillya and Pokuttya is presented in the rich folk art.  The works of wood, metal, ceramics, textile, embroidery, sheep wool, leather and glass have gained special perfection.

There are open public and private museums in Verkhovyna, Halych, Dolyna, Kolomyja, Kosiv, Rozhniativ districts and in Ivano-Frankivsk city for connoisseurs of folk art.
