- Full day Odessa city tour. You will start with a stroll along Odessa’s seafront promenade. Not far away from the sea terminal, you will see the Potemkin Steps, which grandiosely descend 455 feet down to the sea front. These are Odessa’s own unique architectural landmark and the symbol of the city. The giant stairway was also made famous by Eisenstein’s silent motion picture. You may decide to climb the 192 stairs or take the funicular to their top to admire the optical illusion the steps create, as well as the magnificent view over the Black Sea.
- The monument of Duke Richelieu – a French statesman and monarchist of noble origin, who left his homeland after the French Revolution and, while in exile, served in the Russian army under Catherine the Great and later became Odessa’s first governor.
- continue along the lively Deribasovskaya Street – one of Odessa’s main pedestrian thoroughfares, which is lined with cafes, restaurants, and shops
- You will be treated to a guided tour of the Fine Arts Museum with a museum’s historian, including a tour of the underground Grotto in the Catacombs under the museum (once visited by the Russian tsars).
The Museum of Fine Arts is housed in a beautiful 19th century building, a period most notable for its school of Classicism. The museum of Fine Arts contains the largest and most impressive collection in Ukraine, particularly those of 18th and 19th century Russian masters such as Levitskiy, Borovikovskiy, and Tropinin.
Works by the masters of Russian and Ukrainian Realistic School of the 19th century - the early 20th century comprise the great part of the Museum's collection, which consists of portraits of great painters like Repin, Surikov and many others, known as the Wanderers. Of particular note is the work of the outstanding seascape painter I. Aivazovskiy and others who followed in his footsteps.
- Gala Dinner “Welcome to Ukraine” at a local restaurant with traditional Ukrainian Musicians’ performance (for groups over 10 PAX)
Overnight: hotel in Odessa
Day 3
- Breakfast at the hotel
- Tour to Odessa Catacombs. This morning you will transfer a few miles outside of the city to visit the famous Odessa catacombs near the village of Nerubayskoye. Spanning hundreds of miles under the city of Odessa and its environs, the catacombs were created in the 18th century as limestone was quarried to build many of Odessa’s noble residences and palaces. Later, the network of tunnels was used for clandestine activities (like smuggling) and as a hiding place for revolutionaries and criminals. During the Second World War and the Nazi occupation, they were used as a shelter and command centre by the local Resistance. Odessa’s 73-day defence against the Nazi invaders remains an example of great fortitude and courage. The title of a Hero City was conferred upon Odessa for this heroic deed. You will be guided through the catacombs by a special catacomb guide.
- Departure. Transfer with the guide to your flight homeward.
